Crafts and more crafts! Finishing touches

Crafty today (or just tired of the rain and grief)

The green guys are a pair of dragon slippers we found at a thrift store - seams falling open, heads dragging.  I inserted small dowels in the necks, added more stuffing, sewed most of the seams and now she has happy dragons

The flat mauve piece is a panel that Mom quilted that was left over from the quilt we finished that she had started.  We are going to hang it as an art piece.

the pillow is two panels that were left over

the beadwork/wood/art piece is the Hebrew aleph-bet done in loomed beadwork, mounted on small wooden squares (or rectangles) that were then mounted on dowels of varying heights.  Mounted on a thin piece of plywood, edging applied, wire and eyelets - hang piece

Next I'm going to work on netting for my bed - with all the rain the bugs are insane this year!  I'm also researching for a new novel I've got the basic plot for in my head - it's such JOY to research Nazis and WWII on a rainy day - NOT

Three Generations of Women

We are Jackie and Barbara, daughters of Kathlene S. Jones and granddaughters of Maude Carr.  In the mid 1980s our Mom’s bestfriend, Marie asked if Mom and Grandma would make her a quilt.  Our Grandma was a renowned quilt maker, all hand done, no machine stitching anywhere.  She had quilts that traveled to new owners from Germany to Alaska.

Grandma wasn’t up to much quilting at that point but Mom said she would do it in large squares. Grandma helped pick out the material and pattern and did some of the hand sewing, the majority of the quilting was done by our mother.

A miscalculation stumped Mom and she put the pieces away for years. After her death 1 Dec 2012 my sister and I found the squares and Marie told us the story behind it and we promised to finish it. Marie was overjoyed, it is a quilt of three generations (she considered our Grandma as her adopted mother).  Unfortunately, we lost Marie three days later but we have finished the quilt on 15 June 2013.  A quilt made in love by three generations that has a few teardrops tucked into the material.

This is honor of Maude Carr, Kathlene Jones and Marie Melendez

Wristband for Tim

This is a wristband worked up for a dear friend from highschool.  He's part of a Christian motorcycle club.
